Going Headless: Our Real Story from WordPress to Strapi + Next.js

Going Headless: Our Real Story from WordPress to Strapi + Next.js

Like many companies, we started with WordPress.

It was quick to launch, easy to update, and got us off the ground when Gigasolv was just getting started. But as we grew, there came more clients, more pages, and more expectations. We realized we were constantly hacking our way around WordPress rather than moving forward with it.

The turning point?

When even small changes to the website started feeling like pushing a boulder uphill.

What wasnʼt working?

We werenʼt chasing trends. We were chasing speed, flexibility, and control. But our old stack had other plans.

Hereʼs what we were dealing with:

  •     Slow performance - even with caching and CDNs, Lighthouse scores were inconsistent.

  •     Rigid templates - marketing wanted freedom, but every layout tweak needed dev time.

  •     Security & plugin chaos - keeping everything updated without breaking something was a full-time job.

  •     Tangled frontend/backend - designers couldnʼt move fast, and devs were blocked by CMS quirks.

WordPress is great for many things but we had outgrown it. It wasnʼt just a developer frustration. It was starting to slow down the business.

What we wanted instead!

We wanted a stack that could scale with us, not just technically, but creatively and operationally. That meant:

  •     A clean separation between content and presentation

  •     A CMS that could support structured content, reusable blocks, and custom workflows

  •     A frontend that was blazing fast, SEO-friendly, and developer-loved

  •     A setup where our content team and dev team could finally work in parallel Thatʼs when we went all-in on headless.

Why we chose Strapi + Next.js

After exploring our options, we chose Strapi for the backend and Next.js for the frontend, and honestly, it felt like switching from a typewriter to a MacBook.

Hereʼs why:

Strapi gave us total content control

  • Custom content types in minutes, not hours

  • REST and GraphQL APIs out of the box

  • Clean admin UI that even our non-tech team loves

  • Self-hosted, open-source, and highly extensible

 Next.js made our frontend lightning-fast

  •     Using server-side rendering along with static generation helped us significantly improve our Core Web Vitals.

  •     Incredible developer DX (developer experience)

  •     SEO-friendly out of the box

  •     Easy integration with Strapi via APIs

Together, they gave us the speed of JAMstack with the power of a custom CMS minus the lock-in and clutter.

GOING HEADLESS: OUR REAL STORY

What changed for Gigasolv

Since going headless, hereʼs what weʼve seen:

  •     Page load speeds improved significantly — better for SEO, UX, and conversions

  •     Development became modular — no more spaghetti themes or page builders

  •     Content teams are unblocked — structured content means more reuse, faster updates

  •     Easier scalability — multiple sites, apps, or landing pages from a single CMS

  •     Cleaner workflows — developers build, marketers publish, no collisions

In short: we are building faster, collaborating better, and experimenting more freely. The tech got out of the way, and growth took its place.

Lessons we learned along the way

If youʼre still on a monolithic CMS like WordPress, hereʼs what weʼd share:

Headless isnʼt just for developers.

It benefits marketers, designers, and customers too.

Migration isnʼt as scary as it sounds.

With the right team and a clear content model, itʼs very doable.

Strapi hits the sweet spot.

Itʼs developer-first but flexible enough for non-tech teams.

Donʼt just “portˮ — rethink.

Going headless is a chance to reimagine how your digital platform works.

This wasnʼt just a tech upgrade, it was a strategic shift. One that aligned with how we wanted to build, grow, and deliver.

The future is Headless, and we are building it.

Rebuilding our site wasnʼt just a redesign. It was a reset of how we think about content, speed, and scale.

Weʼre not looking back.

And if youʼre running into the same friction we were, it might be time to rethink your CMS too. You donʼt have to wrestle with bloated plugins and rigid themes. You can build faster. Ship faster. Grow faster.

Because when the foundation is flexible, everything on top moves with more freedom.
